Nutrition Facts Banana

Banana nutrition facts

Banana is a convenient source of carbohydrate and potassium. Greener fruit contains more resistant starch; as ripening advances, starch is converted into sugars, so a ripe banana tastes sweeter and can provide readily available carbohydrate around training. Potassium supports normal muscle function, but eating a banana has not been shown to prevent or rapidly treat exercise-associated cramps. Choose green fruit for longer home storage and let it ripen at room temperature.

More about banana allergy

Banana is not one of the nine major U.S. food allergens. However, people with latex allergy have a greater risk of reacting to banana because latex and banana can share cross-reactive proteins. Individual reactions vary; an allergist can assess suspected symptoms.

This general information does not replace the ingredient and allergen label on a packaged product or individual medical advice.

Interesting fact

A dark peel does not have only one cause

Banana peel may darken through normal ripening, bruising, or chilling injury. Low-temperature exposure can disrupt peel color and sometimes cause the peel and edible pulp to ripen differently, so color alone does not prove that a banana was stored incorrectly.
